Anybody Have an iPhone?

Posted by: Billy Bangkok on Monday, April 21st, 2008

I was wondering if anybody had been brave enough to plunk down the cash for an open SIM iPhone from MBK or elsewhere.  I’ll be passing through Bangkok next week and was thinking of maybe purchasing a new toy as the prices for an open SIM iPhone where I live are about 2x the price of what I’ve seen people claiming to have picked them up for in BKK.

Anybody who has any info on phones getting bricked or any other horror stories about MBK purchased iPhones would be much appreciated.

On a side note, drop me a ping if you’re around next week.  I’ve got a laundry list of things that I need to get at but wouldn’t mind having a cold one with some of the blogging brethren.

Hey there,

I bought my iPhone in february at MBK when I was in Bangkok. It was unlocked and it is working great in any country over here in Europe (I live in the Netherlands). I’m very happy with it, even the Apple Firmware Updates are not a big deal as there is a load of information on the internet!

Did you get yours???

Hi Paraquat,

Thanks for the info. No, I didn’t get the iPhone. I already have an iPod Touch and the rumor mill has been working overtime about the new 3G coming out and being unlocked. I ifigured I would pick up a Nokia N95 for now and wait to see what happens with Apple.

Plus when I was looking at the phone and ran into a communication problem over whether or not I would install my firmware upgrades myself or they would have to do it I figured it was better to hold off.

Bill
